How Yoga supports the nervous system.

Yoga is an ancient practice that has been known to provide a multitude of benefits to the human body, mind, and spirit. While most people usually think of yoga as a form of exercise, it is much more than that. I used to think that yoga was boring and dull. Little did I know!

Yoga is known to have a pacifying effect on the nervous system, helping us to combat stress, anxiety, and other related issues.

Stress is a natural response from our beautiful nervous system to the outside world. Stress is helpful but it can be tricky if we get stuck in it! Chronic stress and the associated fight-or-flight response can lead to various health issues such as anxiety, depression, and even physical problems like heart disease and type-2 diabetes.

Here are five ways that yoga can support the nervous system:

  1. Yoga helps to reduce stress and anxiety: As we perform different yoga asanas, we become more aware of our breath and our body. This awareness helps us to relax and calm down, reducing stress and anxiety levels.

  2. Yoga enhances brain function: Yoga has been shown to increase brain activity and help the brain to better regulate emotions. This can make us more resilient to stress and less likely to fall into negative thought patterns.

  3. Yoga reduces inflammation: Chronic stress can lead to inflammation in the body, which can contribute to various diseases. Yoga is known to reduce inflammation by boosting the immune system and reducing stress.

  4. Yoga promotes restful sleep: A good night's sleep is critical to overall health and well-being. Yoga has been shown to improve sleep quality and promote restful sleep, which in turn can help us to better manage stress and anxiety.

  5. Yoga lowers blood pressure: High blood pressure is a common side effect of chronic stress. Regular yoga practice has been shown to lower blood pressure and reduce the risk of heart disease.

So, if you are looking to soothe your nervous system and improve your overall health, give yoga a try. You will no regret it!

Love,

Fernanda
